Sunday, Oct. 25 — Armenian Genocide Centennial Commemorative Concert, 4-6 p.m., Mechanics Hall, 321 Main St. Quick story: In the latest White House Super Bowl fete Bill Belichick and his longtime assistant Berj Najarian urged President Obama in April to finally fulfill a campaign promise and recognize the 1915 killings of an estimated 1.5 million Armenians by the Ottoman government as genocide, a contentious connotation historically avoided to keep in the good graces of Turkey, which is an important strategic ally particularly in the global war on terrorism (ironically enough). We can only hope Obama is saving that divisive declaration for the 101st anniversary — all bets are off in the last few months in the Oval Office.
